Harold Kim came to Canada from Korea in the 1970’s with his parents and sister. They settled in midtown Toronto where his parents started their own small business. Harold acquired his strong work ethic and values from his parents.
He attended Queen’s University and majored in Geography. Harold always had a heart to help those less fortunate, which led him to work in fundraising for a global humanitarian relief organization. He helped to microfinance entrepreneurs and water projects in Africa, as well as school projects in Central America. This sparked in Harold an awareness of the connection between wealth and development, leading him to the investment world where he spent 23 years working in Wealth Management in Toronto. Harold recognized that financial literacy is critical to avoiding poverty and establishing a strong footing in life. Today, he still enjoys mentoring youth in financial literacy.
Harold feels a strong desire to contribute to the community he loves. In 2014, he was elected as a councillor for the for the Town of Aurora. In 2018, he obtained the most votes and became Deputy Mayor. Harold sits on several committees including the Finance Advisory Committee, Aurora Economic Development Board, and the Anti-Black/ Anti-racism Task Force.
Harold and his wife Carol have a daughter and son. He shares his love of the outdoors with his family via skiing, hiking, and fishing trips. He continues his lifelong pursuit of health and wellness by participating in marathons. He is also a classical violinist and loves music.
